Nah, they were fairly lax. You get a quick bag search but just stick it in a water bottle and right down the bottom, you should be fine. I was 17 when I went, you could go to town, get someone to buy you a crate. Slip half and half in a pair of low crotch jeans and just walk right in with it.

Ok I’m starting to feel something here… Remember yesterday - I was rambling about punk > religion for everyday use? Well check this out.

You can see that God (gold leaf, of course, a bit showy as usual…) was trying to get somewhere with his quote but tbh I weren’t feeling it and I had a nagging feeling I was going to get the blame for some shit before the end of it.

Anyway, some scribbler felt the same and popped probably my favourite teaching of Joe Strummer down there in utility black. Better, right? Inspirational in fact.

You know what? Don’t click the link above, because it links to The Daily Mail, and, frankly, I don’t want to give them the traffic. I think that you can get the gist of the story from the headline.

What makes me angry is that the Mail completely fails to recognise that it’s people like this girl that it’s been vilifying recently as lazy scroungers, who’d rather live off the tax payer than go out to work, and if they’d just get motivated and go out and get a job then the whole country would be better off.

But, hey, it’s not just the Mail, it’s the government too. Earlier today George Osborne, the Chancellor of the Exchequer, gave a speech in defence of the recent benefits reforms in which he claimed that the government was on the side of people who want to “do the right thing.”

Was this girl not doing the right thing? She was well educated, she was applying for jobs…for hundreds of jobs…she was applying for simple, menial work just to get something…anything…and yet she still couldn’t find a job. And yet it’s people like this who find themselves poorer thanks to Osborne’s benefit cuts. And why? Supposedly to motivate them to “do the right thing.” This girl was getting by on £51 a week…she was desperate for a job…what more motivation did she need than that? She was so desperate that, in the end, she took her own life.

The government and their friends at the Mail can fantasise about work shy benefit scroungers all they like, but this is the reality…these are the people they’re demonising. The desperate, the poor, the destitute, the disabled…people with no hope. And the fact that the Mail can run a story like this and then keep on attacking the most vulnerable in society just sickens me even more.
